Japanese Kanagawa prefecture to develop an industrial zone in Vietnam

January 29th 2015, the Foreign Investment Agency had a meeting with the delegation from Japanese Kanagawa Prefecture government, which was represented by the Prefecture’s Department of Industry and Labor and Industrial Promotion Center, on promoting the prefecture’s businesses’ investment in Vietnam. Mr. Makoto Shimizu, Director General of Kanagawa Department of Industry and Labor informed that the prefecture government has decided to choose Thanglong Industrial Zone II, based in Hung Yen province, to promote its enterprises’ investment in. In the coming time, the prefecture’s enterprises will rent small and medium size factories within the zone, then will expand to the surrounding zones. FIA will assist Kanagawa’s enterprises in their business establishment as well as connect the prefecture with Hung Yen government for further cooperation. The Kanagawa delegation also met Hung Yen’s government leaders later on the same date. This initial effort of the prefecture in promoting investment in Thang Long Industrial Zone II of Vietnam signals a new wave of Kanagawa investment to Hung Yen and Vietnam in the coming time.
Kanagawa prefecture is located in Tokyo’s surrounding with Yokohama be its capital. The prefecture’s economy is of the same size as that of Denmark or Thailand. Its 2013 GDP accounted for 5.63% of GDP of Japan. The prefecture’s major industries include automobile, electronics, IT etc. Many of Japan’s giants in these fields are based in Kanagawa, such as Nissan, Sony, Fujifilm, Canon, Toshiba and Ajinomoto.
On July 25th 2014, the Prefecture and Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam signed an MOU on investment promotion cooperation, aiming at further boosting the prefecture’s investment into Vietnam.
