Bamboo Airways to launch maiden flight in October

Bamboo Airways, a subsidiary of property developer FLC Group, is planning to launch its first flight on October 10, reported news website Sai Gon Giai Phong.

The airline will start offering air tickets for the flight on Vietnam's National Day (September 2).

Although the specific plan for ticket sales has yet to be announced, the first batch of passengers flying with Bamboo Airways will be offered numerous discounts on golfing and accommodation services at FLC’s five-star resorts.

In addition, Bamboo Airways has announced a plan to raise its charter capital from VND700 billion (US$30.2 million) to VND1.3 trillion, after the FLC Group received a US$200-million loan from Credit Suisse AG Bank. With the new charter capital, the airline can have a fleet of 30 aircraft in accordance with prevailing regulations and aim to become one of the leading airlines in Vietnam.

The FLC Group had signed contracts to purchase 44 Boeing and Airbus aircraft worth US$8.6 billion in March and June.

The prime minister had approved the Bamboo Airways air transport project on July 7. The airline will be headquartered at Phu Cat Airport in the south-central coastal province of Binh Dinh.

The government leader asked the Ministry of Transport to appraise the airline project and issue a business license for aviation transport in line with prevailing regulations. Meanwhile, the People’s Committee of Binh Dinh will be responsible for verifying the information of the project and inspecting and supervising its execution until 2023.

The approval gives the airline an operation term of 50 years from the date of the decision being issued.

Dang Tat Thang, general director of Bamboo Airways, said that the airline would be a hybrid, combining the services of traditional and budget airlines, to meet the demands of every segment.

Bamboo Airways plans to introduce direct international flights to destinations where the FLC Group has resort facilities, such as Quy Nhon, Quang Ninh, Haiphong, Phu Quoc and Nha Trang, in addition to domestic flights connecting tourist spots in the country.
