PM Chính arrives in Japan, starting three-day official visit

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, leading a high-level Vietnamese delegation, arrived in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday evening, beginning his three-day official trip at the invitation of the Japanese PM Kishida Fumio.

PM Chính and his entourage were welcomed at Hadena International Airport by Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Miyake Shingo, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio and Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vũ Hồng Nam, among others. 

This is PM Chính’s first visit to Japan and the Vietnamese PM is also the first foreign leader to be received by the Japanese PM after taking office earlier in October.

The delegation accompanying PM Chính on this trip include Minister of National Defense Phan Văn Giang; Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn; Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Trần Văn Sơn; Prosecutor-General of the Supreme People's Procuracy Lê Minh Trí; Minister of Home Affairs Phạm Thị Thanh Trà; Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyễn Chí Dũng; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyễn Hồng Diên; Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Lê Minh Hoan; Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Trần Hồng Hà; Minister of Health Nguyễn Thanh Long, along with many leaders of a number of ministries, sectors, provinces and cities as well as Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vũ Hồng Nam.

The visit takes place as the two countries' relations are at a high point since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Through the visit, Việt Nam affirms its willingness to join Japan in opening a new and more effective stage of development in various fields, especially with regards to the economy, national security, multilateralism, people-to-people exchanges, to push the bilateral ties to a level commensurate with the extensive strategic partnership between Việt Nam and Japan.

Việt Nam has always been a friendly and reliable friend and partner of Japan and supports Japan in promoting its ‘worthy’ role in the region and in the world, contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

The visit is the implementation of Việt Nam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, for peace, friendship, cooperation and development as laid out at the 13th National Party Congress.

During the visit, PM Chính will have discussions with Japanese leaders to promote cooperation in a number of key areas, especially economic cooperation, healthcare, COVID-19 vaccines and medicines; promoting security and defence cooperation and cooperation at multilateral forums on international issues of mutual concern, towards the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2023. 

They will also exchange views on new policies facilitating border re-opening, maintaining exports-imports and supporting investment.

In addition, the Government leader of Việt Nam will join working sessions with leaders of Japan’s major economic organisations such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and conglomerates in the fields of green energy, transport infrastructure and health care, among others.

The PM is set to participate in the Việt Nam-Japan business forum in Tokyo and a trade promotion event linking localities of the two countries in Tochigi, during which he will inform Japanese firms about investment incentives and potential of the Vietnamese market.

He will meet with the Vietnamese community in Japan to affirm the consistent policy of the Party and State on consolidating the great national solidarity and upholding the strength of the whole nation.
